High school sports roundup: ConVal’s Elise Robbins wins state Division II pole vault championship

ConVal’s Elise Robbins won the Division II pole vault state championship at Oyster River High School in Durham on Friday.

Robbins cleared 8-feet, 6-inches to claim first place and score all 10 points the girls’ team received. The girls finished 15th out of 18 teams with 10 points, while the boys were eighth out of 18 teams with 23 points.

For the boys, sophomore Kendrick Edwards scored nine points with a second-place finish in the 100- meter dash (11.37 seconds) and a sixth-place finish in the long jump (19-feet, 9 1/2-inches). Junior Jack Harris finished in second place in the pole vault with a personal-best height of 11-feet, 6-inches, earning eight points.

The 4x100-meter relay team of Edwards, Harris, junior Anthony Cadwallader and sophomore Elliot Featherstone finished in 44.85 seconds, good for fourth place and four points. Junior Jamie Post finished in fifth place in the 110-meter hurdles in a personal-best time of 17.03 seconds, scoring two points.

Additionally, Cadwallader’s 5-foot, 6-inch high jump tied a personal-best performance.

Junior Aida Davis’s 1:03.13 was her personal-best time in the 400-meter run. Senior Brianna Decker capped off her high school triple-jumping career with a personal-best 28-foot, 10 1/2-inch leap. In the final track event of the evening, the boys 4x400-meter relay team with seniors Ryan Charron and Nathaniel Mao, junior Ryan O’Connor and freshman Mason Deschenes achieved their best-ever time of 3:54.56.

The ConVal boys’ lacrosse team wrapped up its regular season on Senior Night Friday with an 8-7 victory over Keene. The Cougars ended the regular season 8-7 and and playoff-bound.

Kiernan King scored three goals. Kelly McMahon and Noah Lambert each added two, and Eric McGrath scored one. Kiernan King, Kelly McMahon, Eric McGrath, Seth Fowler and Noah Stewart each had an assist.

Head coach Barton Wheeler is confident in his goalie heading into the playoffs

“Nick Squatrito has been there every game,” said Wheeler.

Squatrito had seven saves against Keene. Stephen Simard also had a save.

The Cougars are set to begin playoffs on Thursday, June 1, at 5 p.m. at the home field of the higher seed.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Conant wins first match, falls in quarterfinals

The No. 10 seed Conant High School girls tennis team beat seventh-seeded White Mountains 5-4 in the first round of the Division III playoffs Thursday.

Conant split the singles matches, with Margaret Winiecki winning 8-0 at first singles, Kelly Williams winning 8-4 at second singles and Grace Lewis winning 8-5 at fifth singles. The Orioles took two of the three doubles matches to secure the victory, as Winiecki  and Williams scored an 8-1 win at first doubles and Nobley Walker and Lewis won their third doubles match by an 8-5 score.

Lilly Rennie lost 8-3 at third singles. Walker lost 8-4 at fourth singles, and Riley Goddard lost 8-6 at sixth singles. The team of Rennie and Goddard lost 8-5 at third doubles.

Conant’s season came to an end Friday, as the Orioles lost 6-3 to second-seeded Kearsage.
