Peterborough twins Eric and Mike Jackman are on a mission to interview as many presidential candidates as possible before the 2020 election.

On Feb. 8, the two brothers launched a new video series called Politics and Pints, where they interview candidates about their platform and political views while enjoying a beer inside Peterborough’s Post and Beam Brewing.

The twins have interviewed presidential candidates Andrew Yang and Tulsi Gabbard so far. Both clips have over 9,000 views, with the Yang interview having over 14,000.

“I want people to be able to see and hear an interview that they aren’t going to get on the nightly news, something they won’t see on CNN or FOX or MSNBC, something that’s a little more thoughtful,” Mike Jackman said after interviewing Gabbard last month. “A lot of times you see these people who call themselves journalists or television hosts and they haven’t done any research … that’s why we want to give every candidate who’s willing to sit down with us a chance to plead their case, whether we agree with them or not.”

The Jackmans have been doing podcast-style interviews and shows since early 2015 when they launched Jackman Radio. Past interviews have included former White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card, political consultant Roger Stone, former Minnesota Governor and retired pro wrestler Jesse Ventura and journalist Russ Baker.

While their podcast has covered a long range of topics including movies, film and current events, every post includes at least a little bit of politics.

“The idea that Mike and I could just sit down, have our rapport and talk about subjects and whatever was on our mind, have a few beers, then record it and put it forward to people was something we were interested in doing. I’m glad to have a platform to do that,” Eric Jackman said.

The self-described political junkies decided to launch the Politics and Pints series as a way to take advantage of the New Hampshire primary, which as the first in the nation draws numerous candidate’s to the Granite State, and as a way to promote downtown Peterborough and the town’s only brewery.

“We want to promote the beauty of community and this is really a community effort coming together … We want to point out how special our little corner of the world is in the Monadnock Region,” Mike Jackman said.

Something notably absent from the Politics and Pints series is the Jackmans’ penchant for humor – the two routinely break into impressions of President Donald Trump, conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, and others during routine conversations – but the move away from comedy for the presidential candidate interviews was an intentional one.

“When we get down to it and crack the cocoa, Eric and I are very serious about a lot of these major issues to our core. We both studied politics in college, we’ve both been fascinated and interested and you could even say obsessed with foreign policy and American political history ... a lot of the time we deal with the news and current events and stories with humor, but at the core of it there are these major issues we actually care about and do take seriously,” Mike Jackman said.

The brothers have launched a Patreon account so that people can contribute financially to their podcast and interviewing endeavors, so they can produce even more content consistently.
