Staff Report

The Jaffrey-Rindge Cooperative School District has announced two finalists for the vacant middle/high school principal position.

Finalists David Dustin and Brett Blanchard will be in the Conant High School music room from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 4, for a meet and greet event, according to the district’s Facebook page.

Parents and community members will be able to meet, listen to, and speak with the candidates, and will be given an opportunity to provide feedback about the candidates.

The district decided to consolidate the middle and high school principal positions during the most recent budget cycle, with the move made official after voters approved the 2018-2019 operating budget in March.

A search for a new principal commenced in mid-April after the resignations of Conant High School Principal Larry Pimental and Jaffrey-Rindge Middle School Robert Clark.

Dustin has been a social studies teacher at Conant High School for the past eight years and program director for the YMCA Camp Abnaki in Vermont for the past decade.

While at Conant, Dustin has served as a member of the school district’s Inquiry team, as the high school’s drama club director, and the president of the Jaffrey-Rindge Education Association.

He has a bachelor’s degree in social studies/secondary education and is currently completing his master’s degree in educational leadership at Keene State College.

Blanchard served 11 years as principal at Fair Haven Union High School in Vermont, in addition to serving seven years as dean of students at Poultney High School in Vermont, 13 years as a social studies teacher, and three years as an athletic director.

Blanchard has a bachelor’s degree in social studies and a master’s in educational leadership. His background is in proficiency-based education, inquiry-driven learning, and school improvement processes, according to the post.

The two candidates will also tour the Jaffrey-Rindge Middle School/Conant High School campus on Monday to meet with students, faculty, staff, administration, the school board, parents, and community members.

Dustin and Blanchard were selected after a principal search committee spent several weeks of reviewing applications, discussing candidate qualifications, and holding interviews.
