TEAM Jaffrey has been named the 2017 Jaffrey Chamber of Commerce Nonprofit of the year.

“Amongst the nominees, we felt that TEAM Jaffrey had the widest impact on the town,” said Chamber Executive Director Max Mitchell. “They have these big events that provide a level of exposure, and they really engage the community.”

TEAM Jaffrey works to provide more accessible and welcoming downtown are for people throughout Jaffrey and beyond by using economic support, design, promotion, and outreach. The nonprofit works with local businesses and other groups in the downtown area to promote the growth of the town’s local economy.

The organization, made up of mostly volunteers, has been promoting the downtown area through various events since 1999. Riverfest, Scarecrows on the Common, Trick or Treat on the Town, Dueling Pianos, Breakfast with Super Heroes, Concerts on the Common, and the weekly Farmers’ Market events are some of the events that TEAM Jaffrey puts on every year.

TEAM Jaffrey Executive Director Stephanie Niemela – who has been in the leadership role for about a year now – said Monday that it was “a good surprise” when she heard TEAM Jaffrey had been named the recipient of the award.

“[Volunteers] are the backbone of this organization,” said Niemela, who said she has a core group of about 25 volunteers and about 75 volunteers in total. “Without them, all of this doesn’t happen.”

While the focus for TEAM Jaffrey is on the downtown area, Niemela said she is happy that many events are recognized throughout town and bring people from throughout the region and beyond to Jaffrey.

“We are all trying to make Jaffrey a better place,” said Niemela.
