A film of the 2018 London stage production of “Red,” the Tony-award-winning play about artist Mark Rothko, will be screened at the River Street Theatre on Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

The play stars the original lead, Alfred Molina, as Rothko and Alfred Enoch as his assistant. It was filmed live at Londons’s Wyndham Theatre last summer.

Rothko was one of the leading artists of the mid-century abstract expressionist style of painting. His paintings bewildered many but were eventually hailed by critics and museums around the world. John Logan’s play tells how, under the watchful gaze of his young assistant and the threatening presence of a new generation of artists, Rothko took on his greatest challenge: to create a definitive work for an extraordinary setting.

Tickets for “Red” are $15 ($13 for seniors, active military, students, and teachers).

More program and schedule information, as well as ticket purchases, can be found at RiverSt.org or by calling the RST Box Office at 532-8888.
