Oh, how the mighty have fallen.

Sunapee, winners of 75 straight games, including the last three Division IV championships, came to Mascenic Tuesday night on a streak about as good as any in the history of NHIAA basketball. Now, the Lakers are on a one-game losing streak after the Viking girls handed them their first loss since the 2014 finals.

Mascenic held Sunapee to just seven points in the second and third quarters combined, jumping out to as much as a 21-point lead over the defending champs before emptying the bench and eventually winning 49-38.

“We played hard,” said head coach Kevin Rines after the win. “We need to outhustle teams and we did that tonight.”

Sophomore guard Shelby Babin led the Mascenic charge with 22 points (four three-pointers). Senior Jordyn Babin scored eight and Maddie Labrie, Maddie Pare, Shannon Wooster and Julianna Tucci all scored four apiece.

Mascenic (2-1) plays at Epping (4-1) on Jan. 5 at 6:30 p.m.
