Community members are rallying together to raise money for a former Greenville man who was seriously injured in a motorcycle accident.

On June 17, around midnight, 20-year-old Aidan Foss was traveling home on his motorcycle in Houston when an unidentified car pulled out of the driveway at the same time, causing Foss to T-bone the moving vehicle. According to Foss’s testimony, the driver fled the scene on foot, leaving Foss on the ground in critical condition.

According to Foss's mother Jody Nicholson, Houston Police identified the driver of the 2014 Mercedes as 26-year-old Rodney Lamar-Hobbs. The crash caused Lamar-Hobbs’ Mercedes axle to come off the car, leaving the vehicle undriveable. Houston Police later arrested Lamar-Hobbs for his involvement in the crash.

The collision caused Foss to suffer from a broken femur, multiple fractures to his face and wrists and bleeding in his brain.

Nicholson said when she heard the news of her son’s accident, it was a moment she’ll never forget.

“It was awful and scary. It was terrifying. My heart was beating out of my chest,” said Nicholson.

Due to his injuries, Foss was airlifted to Houston for emergency treatment. Nicholson said when she arrived to Houston to visit her son in the hospital, she was in hysterics, begging Aidan to stay strong in his worst moment.

“I said, ‘You’re going to be OK. You’re going to get through this injuries. I’m not giving up on you, and you don’t give up on you,’ ” said Nicholson.

Fortunately, Foss survived two successful surgeries to his femur and brain. However, these surgeries are just the start of his long-term recovery.

In addition to the surgeries, Foss is planned to undergo physical therapy treatment for the next few weeks. According to his family, he is expected to be able to walk on crutches in the coming months.

However, due to his injuries sustained from the crash and his ongoing treatment, Nicholson said her son’s medical bills are totaling over $435,000 and are continuing to climb.

In an effort to help Foss and his family, Foss’s sister Emily Harding created a GoFundMe to raise money for his medical expenses. To kickstart the fundraiser, Foss’s close friend Xaria Talbot contributed approximately $1,000 to his GoFundMe, which was raised through a hot dog sale at the Pots and Pans Independence Day celebration in Greenville.

Talbot said she’s forever grateful to the Greenville community for assisting Foss and his family during this hard time.

“Once we got the word out, everybody has been so kind and supportive. It’s good to see the community coming together, it means a lot to all of us,” said Talbot.

So far, Foss’s family has raised $7,931 of their $10,000 goal, thanks to the contributions of nearly 100 friends, family and community members.
