Residents in need of an oil tank upgrade may qualify for state assistance.

On Aug. 13,  Erik Paddleford of New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services will be in Greenville to answer questions about the state’s SafeTank Program.

Homeowners who use on-premise heating oil facilities, who can also demonstrate a financial need, may apply to the program for reimbursement costs to upgrade their oil tanks, up to $2,250.

To qualify for the program, the homeowner must meet the definition of “low income” as set by the U.S. Department of Housing or Urban Development – defined as earning 80 percent of the median income for the area.

In Cheshire County, that would mean a two-person household would have to have an income of less than $52,250, or $57,400 for a two-person household in Hillsborough County.

“It’s a bit more broad than some programs which require low-income participants,” Greenville Town Administrator Tara Sousa told the Greenville Select Board during its meeting on Wednesday. “I think we have a lot of residents who would qualify.”

Residents may qualify for the reimbursement if their tank is leaking, unstable, in contact with the ground, has visible rust, weeps, wet spots or dents, has signs of clogged vents, or has other issues.

The presentation is scheduled for Aug. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Greenville Town Hall meeting room. There will be a short presentation with an opportunity for questions. Light refreshments will be served. Residents and non-residents from surrounding communities are welcome to attend.

For more information about the SafeTank program, or to see if you qualify, check the Department of Environmental Services website.
