The Greenville Board of Selectmen has voted Tara Sousa as the town’s new town administrator.

The former bookkeeper and administrative assistant will replace Kelley Collins. Collins announced recently that she is departing after more than seven years in the role to become town administrator in Wakefield.

Sousa’s promotion was made official at the selectmen’s meeting on Wednesday, March 22.

In a press release, the board of selectmen said it feels “lucky that Mrs. Sousa was willing to accept the position of Town Administrator.”

Sousa had been the bookkeeper and assistant since August 2016. Until just this month, she was Greenville’s at-large representative to the Mascenic Regional School Board, but did not run for re-election. She has also been elected treasurer for Greenville, and worked for 14 years with Greenville Estates.

The town administrator position is budgeted for $60,117 in the recently approved town budget. Collins filled the roles of finance director and welfare officer as well.

The newly vacated bookkeeper and administrative assistant position is budgeted for $35,123. The town is seeking applicants to fill that now, and has already interviewed at least one candidate.

According to the official job posting, an associate’s degree is the minimum education requirement, and it wants candidates with accounting experience and communications skills.

To help Sousa learn the role of welfare officer, as well as to help run the office between Collins’ departure and installation of the new bookkeeper, Greenville will get help from New Ipswich Welfare Director Carrie Traffie. Traffie will be available for appointments at $20 per hour, two hours minimum, as needed.
