The Greenville Town Hall meeting room, located on the ground floor of the building, is undergoing renovations after being damaged by flooding in the fall.

In August, during an extreme rainstorm, a roof drain on the Town Hall failed, causing a leak and flooding in the meeting room, according to Town Administrator Tara Sousa.

While the town quickly contacted Servpro, a company specializing in water removal, there was damage done to the floor and walls which has to be addressed, Sousa said.

The town will be paying for the restoration of the room using a payout from its insurance coverage.

A portion of the work has been completed, with the floor having been treated with an epoxy resin at a cost of $6,900. However, the Select Board wasn’t satisfied with the end result of that repair. During a meeting Wednesday, the board discussed the floor, which they said had settled unevenly in places, causing variations in the floor that Selectman Douglas Reardon said was a “safety hazard.” The board directed Sousa to contact the contractor to discuss filling in depressed spots in the floor before opening the room back up to business as usual.

Work is also being done by a separate contractor to repair the drywall damaged by the water and repaint the room. About two feet of drywall has had to be removed from the walls in places and the wood paneling around the room is being replaced. The bathroom must also be redone, as the room also took major water damage. The total cost of those repairs is $7,300.

Sousa said the work on the walls was expected to start within a week. All costs for the repairs are expected to be covered by the building’s insurance.

The Select Board has been meeting in the Mascenic SAU offices in the former Greenville Elementary School while the repairs are being completed.
