The Wilton-Lyndeborough boys’ soccer team is moving on to the second round of the NHIAA Division IV playoffs after upsetting Profile on the road Tuesday.

The No. 11 Warriors traveled over two hours to play the No. 7 Patriots in a game that started cold and ended in the pouring rain.

The teams were tied at two each at the end of regulation on a Jack Schwab header and another goal by Sean Brennan.

“I was hoping to not go into OT,” said WLC head coach Kristin Schwab. “We’ve lost so many of those in the past, but we didn’t this time.”

Indeed, the Warriors took it right to Profile, sending a cross through the box that was bobbled by the Patriot goalie, hampered by the frigid downpour. The ball squirted out of his gloves and right to the waiting foot of Sam Townsend, who finished it for his first career goal and the overtime playoff upset gamewinner.

The Warriors watched in disbelief as the defending champion Patriots dropped to the muddy pitch in defeat.

“Both teams played super hard,” Schwab said. “So proud of my boys!”

WLC will now travel to No. 3 Sunapee Friday at 3 p.m. for a second-round game. The Warriors lost 4-0 to Sunapee to end their season last week.
