Project Shakespeare closes its 25th Anniversary Summer Season on Thursday, Aug. 15 with a performance of Shakespeare’s masterpiece, “King Lear”, at Aldworth Manor, 184 Aldworth Manor Road, Harrisville.

The venue opens at 5:30 p.m. and the performance will be at 6 p.m. This performance will celebrate the 25 years that Project Shakespeare has been transforming students’ lives through theatre education. “King Lear” will be performed by 14 alumni from across the country and 11 current Project Shakespeare students and will be directed by Deborah Shakespeare Thurber, founder and director of Project Shakespeare.

“King Lear” is considered by many to be the greatest tragedy every written. The story follows the paths of two fathers – one a King and one his courtier – who both reject the child who truly loves them. Their blindness unleashes a whirlwind of pitiless ambition and treachery, as family and state are submerged into a violent power struggle that has bitter consequences.

Current Associate Director of Project Shakespeare, Christopher Commander, will play the role of Lear.

The cast also includes:  Yavni Bar Yam, Sarah Wendy Burman, Kaia and Kaden Colby, Rebecca Darling, Jared Duncan, Laura Jenkins, David Jette, Abigail Hampson, Alexandra Hanson, Ryan Hoiriis, Arjun Jaikumar, Alyssia Maki, Seamus Malloy, Harold Thomas McCarthy, Jennifer Migotsky, Tor and Yar Petrov, Grace Ramsden, Patrick Sherlock, Aurora Sousa, Angela Vroom, Arianna Wentworth, Indigo Wolf and Kali Zaffrann.

Tickets are $40 adults,  $30 for seniors 65-plus and children 12 and under and includes a dinner prepared by the Aldworth Manor kitchen and the “King Lear” performance. Drinks and gratuity not included.

Tickets may be purchased at the door that evening beginning at 5:30 p.m. or may be charged in advance at projectshakespeare.org/Current Season. For more info, visit projectshakespeare.org.
