Return to old name

To the editor:

Citizens of Peterborough, we must gather to return the historical society name – it has had the same name for over 100 years. They say the name was changed to increase membership in the region. How many of you can say the new name correctly? They have tried to shorten by calling it “the Center.” We already have the community center and the town center.

I have been a member of the Peterborough Historical Society for over 45 years. I have lectured there, worked there, donated there and eaten there. I even had a key to open the building for meetings or fundraisers when nobody was in the office.

Peterborough prides itself as a true New England town, “a good town to live in,” but where is the historical society? Almost every New England village or town have their own historical society.

If the board does not return the name, “Citizens of Peterborough” we need to petition and put it to vote.
