Murphy fun runs continue through the summer

Jack Murphy Run, June 30

Under steamy skies, the second summer fun run got off to a fast start when ConVal and William and Mary alumnus Alex McGrath made a guest appearance to the Jack Murphy Thursday night 5K series. McGrath, former 3200 meter and cross country Meet of Champions champ, burned up the course in 16 minutes, 57 seconds to finish up 5 seconds on recent Mascenic alumni and Cedarville bound Avery Traffie. Traffie’s team mate and top returner this fall for Mascenic, Jake Movsessian, finished up six seconds behind Traffie for third. CV alumni Jesse Edwards and New Ipswich’s Nels Traffie rounded ou the top five.

Naomi Traffie, Boynton cross country coach, was the winner for the women, finishing in 16th place overall, and one spot up on Kristen Ramey. Wendy Price of Jaffrey and Gretchen Smith and Yolanda Flamino of New Ipswich rounded out the top five for the ladies.

Jack Murphy Run, July 7

Under threatening skies, the third installment of the Jack Murphy 5K was a hot one. While the race got off to a tempered start, in the end the pace increased as the miles wore on. First time winner, Boynton middle schools sub 5 minute miler led all racers finishing in 19 minutes, 15 seconds. Father–son combination, Nels and Avery Traffie followed Somero for second and third. Former ConVal and Holy Cross harrier John Nieskens was fourth and Jaffrey resident and father of the women’s winner, James Mormando, rounded out the top five.

As mentioned earlier, Conant standout Isabella Mormando won for the women in 23 minutes, 42 seconds. Wendy Price of Jaffrey, Heidi Somero, Naomi Traffie and Gretchen Smith, all of New Ipswich, rounded out the top five.
