Ken Finn spent Tuesday afternoon in the sun, caulking around the front door of his downtown Greenfield home. Finn, a retired New York City policeman, turned some heads this year when he painted the Revolutionary-era colonial bright yellow.

“Some of the neighbors are a little shocked, but it's an unfinished art project at this point,” Finn said. “It's almost like an Impressionist painting. When you step back and look at it a year from now, it will be something to look at.”
