Lachrimae sings spring for First Friday

Lachrimae returns to the Mariposa Museum with their spring concert of early music and dance for Friday at 7 p.m.

The performance entitled “The Return of Spring” will celebrate the 450th anniversary of the birth of English composer John Dowland with six of his songs and will also include other Renaissance music from England, Germany and Italy.

Lachrimae is a small select group of singers and players from Franklin Pierce University under the direction of Paul Scharfenberger.

In period costume and with early instruments as the harpsichord and recorder, they perform the music and dance of the Middle Ages and Renaissance.

First Friday activities will begin at 5 p.m. with “Flowers, Flowers, Flowers” for KidCraft followed at 6 p.m. by a reception for the ongoing gallery exhibit, “Kopanang Creation Canticles.”

All events for First Friday are free and open to the public.
