It’s time for new leadership

To the editor:

I support Tyler Ward for the Select Board seat left open by my choice to decline to run again. The reason for my support for Tyler is compelling. We need a fresh set of eyes on town government. We are all caretakers of the Peterborough we love and the time is now perfect to care take not just the town, but the next generation of leaders. My generation is amply, if not disproportionately, represented. Every organization I touch — public, nonprofit, private business large and small, local, the arts, etc. — recognizes the need for the next generation of leadership if they are to be sustainable. Tyler brings a fresh set of eyes and he is mindful and respectful of our values and what makes us all proud to live in Peterborough — he gets it. He will add value to a sustainable vision of the future which is grounded in the past.

As chair of the Heritage Commission, Tyler has brought thoughtful and balanced leadership. He will oppose big-box strip development and support smart growth and local businesses. He is a small business owner. These are the goals that are overwhelmingly supported by survey after survey. I strongly urge you to vote for Tyler Ward for the open Select Board seat. Thanking you for the opportunity to be of service these past 10 years. I decided not to run because we are ready for change.

Joe Byk Chair, Peterborough Select Board
