Jaffrey Police Logs: July 2, 2014


Tuesday, June 24

Motor vehicle accident: At 4:52 p.m., police received a call from Martin Degrandpre, 56, of Jaffrey, reporting he had crashed his motorcycle into a tree in Sandy Lane after avoiding a dog in the roadway. An officer responded to Degrandpre’s residence and issued him an operators report. No injuries were registered. The officer couldn’t locate the dog in surrounding areas.

Tire fire: At 11:35 p.m., police responded to a tire fire report on Dean Farm Road. A vehicle was stopped after an officer witnessed it driving close to the fire. Further investigation allegedly revealed the five juveniles in the car were directly involved with the fire. Police arrested a 17-year-old from Jaffrey and charged him with conspiracy to commit offenses; police also arrested a 17-year-old from Jaffrey and a 17-year-old from New Ipswich and charged them with child endangerment. Two 13-year-old males were arrested and charged with reckless conduct. All the juveniles were released to their parents.

Thursday, June 26

Motor vehicle accident: At around 9:30 p.m., police responded to call reporting a single motor vehicle accident on Howard Hill Road. Peter F. Deiana, 23, of Jaffrey was traveling east in a 1994 Ford Explorer when he drove off the road and hit a tree adjacent to a driveway. Police from Jaffrey and Peterborough had to extricate Deiana from the vehicle. He sustained serious injuries and was transported to the Monadnock Community Hospital by ambulance. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot in Peterborough.

Friday, June 27

Motor vehicle accident: At 9:45 a.m., police responded to a two-car crash in the parking lot of People’s United Bank on Peterborough Street. Russell Howard, 38, of Jaffrey was pulling into the parking lot driving a 2012 KIA. Sherry Anderson, 21, of Jaffrey was backing out in a 2014 Mazda and failed to see Howard. There was minor damage to the vehicle and no injuries were reported .

Saturday, June 28

Motor vehicle accident: At 11:20 a.m., police responded to a minor two-car crash at the Mr. Mike’s parking lot. Thereasa Anderson, 28, of Jaffrey was backing out of a spot driving a Suzuki Vitara and reportedly hit a Toyota Avalon, driven by William Driscoll, 85, of Jaffrey. The damage did not appear to be significant and no injuries were reported.

Motor vehicle accident: At noon, police responded to a minor two-car crash at the Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot. Jacqueline Duval, 82, of Jaffrey and Teri Hudson, 48, of Jaffrey, backed out of their spots and bumped into each other, according to police. No injuries were reported and there was minor damage to the vehicles.

Motor vehicle accident: At 3:58 p.m., police responded to a car rollover on Mountain Road. Anne Hale, 75, of Hinsdale, driving a 2006 Toyota, had gone off the roadway, causing the vehicle to roll over on its roof, police said. Hale said she was injured and was checked by an ambulance at the scene.

Sunday, June 29

Arrest: At 4:20 p.m., police arrested Peter O’Neil, 29, of Jaffrey, and charged him with possession of narcotic drugs. Earlier on Sunday, O’Neil had been stopped for speeding and issued a warning. The officer detected the smell of marijuana, but O’Neil did not give consent to search and was free to leave. Police towed the vehicle to the police station and obtained a search warrant. O’Neil was arrested and charged when he went to station to get the car. He was released on a $1,500 personal recognizance with a court date of Aug. 7.
