Contra dance at Nelson Town Hall

The second Saturday contra dance will be held Saturday, featuring Nils Fredland calling with Skip Gorman and Gordon Peery.

Fredland has been making music and leading dances for 20 years as a teacher, singer, instrumentalist, contra, square and community dance leader, and workshop leader.

Fiddler and mandolinist Gorman has performed on Garrison Keillor’s “A Prairie Home Companion,” at bluegrass festivals, cowboy gatherings and at folk venues throughout the U.S. and Europe.

Peery has played piano for contra dances for more than 35 years. He has worked with Gorman since the mid-1980s, and appears on several of Gorman’s recordings.

Dancing begins at 8 p.m., with a short workshop beforehand. Admission is $8 for adults or $6 for students and seniors.

The dance, presented by The Monadnock Folklore Society, is held at the Town Hall. For more information, call 762-0235 or visit
