RiverMead expansion effort  pushing toward completion

Crew of about 100 expected to finish large-scale addition within three months

PETERBOROUGH — Construction work on the The Village, the expansion to the RiverMead retirement community located across Powersbridge Road from the main RiverMead campus, is now about 70 percent complete, and the new campus is expected to open in about three months.

“We anticipate that construction will be finished at the end of March,” said RiverMead’s Jan Eaton on Monday. “We’ll start moving people in during the first and second weeks in April.”

The Village will have 30 apartments, 10 free-standing cottages with basements and two-car garages and 20 assisted living suites. The new campus will have additional dining halls, a large fitness center, an auditorium that will seat 80 people and a 30-seat movie theater.

“The theater will really allow us to have a larger screen and better acoustics,” Eaton said. Movies are currently shown in the large 150 seat auditorium in the main RiverMead building.

The Village campus will also have an underground parking garage. A shuttle service between the two campuses will be offered.

In a press release about the construction, owner’s representative Marco DePalma from The Belaire Group said that “to date, all city and state inspections have been successful. Materials are shipped in daily and final landscaping and top coating for the roads will be done in the spring”.

There are roughly 100 people working on the site six days a week. They represent Cutler Construction from Worcester, Mass., JAS architectural firm from Portsmouth and local subcontractors from New Hampshire, Vermont and Massachusetts.

Eaton said 90 percent of the units in The Village have already been reserved, but RiverMead is still taking deposits on the remaining units.
