Letter: Fireworks cancellation shows what’s wrong

To the editor:

For as long as I have lived in Peterborough, there has been a wonderful 4th of July fireworks display at the ConVal High School, funded by local businesses. Recently the School Board announced that there would be no more 4th of July celebration because “we have to start protecting the field we spend a good amount of district money on to maintain for use of the students.” We? I like that. And folks wonder why so many citizens distrust government bureaucrats.

I voted for funds to improve that athletic field. Right now the high school gymnasium is being built — also something that we the community voted for. But once again the “officials” show who the we are in their hearts and minds. Not the townsfolk. Not the taxpayers.

I for one plan to remember this on future election days.
