Rescuers face wintry conditions on Monadnock
A Swanzey hiker suffered a leg injury while hiking Mount Monadnock on Saturday afternoon and had to be rescued, according to N.H. Fish and Game.
Kristen Goodenough, 42, was descending the Dublin Trail leg of the Monadnock/Sunapee trail with a group of friends when she hurt her lower leg, wrote Lt. Craig Morrocco of N.H. Fish and Game in a press release dated May 26.
At approximately 1:20 p.m., N.H. Fish and Game Conservation officers were notified by Mount Monadnock Park Manager Patrick Hummel about a woman who had sustained a leg injury right below the summit.
Conservation officers, Mount Monadnock Park personnel, as well as Dublin, Harrisville and Marlborough fire and rescue personnel and volunteers responded to the scene and carried Goodenough down the mountain, according to the press release.
“Rescuers were faced with freezing temperatures resulting in a wind-driven mix of sleet and freezing rain,” wrote Morrocco.
The group reached the trailhead at 7 p.m.
Goodenough was transported by ambulance to Cheshire Medical Center in Keene for treatment.
