5 qualify for tennis tourney
Only the top 32 individuals and teams make the cut for the boys and girls state singles and doubles tennis tournament.
It is a collection of the most talented players across all three divisions and many times the entrants are the same for both tournaments.
Of those 32 selections for the girls singles and doubles tournaments, three are from Conant and one comes from Wilton-Lyndeborough.
Junior Allina Bennett played at No. 1 for the Orioles and helped guide Conant to the best season in program history.
As the top player for the Orioles, Bennett went 8-5 during the regular season. She will play No. 2 ranked Sunday Sweet of Bow at 10 a.m.
WLC freshman Maddy Bacon solidified the top spot for the Warriors this season and proved to be among the best regardless of grade. Bacon was 6-4 on the season and will square off with Katie Wood of Exeter at 9 a.m.
Bennett will also team with junior Courtney Dillon in the doubles tournament on Sunday. Bennett and Dillon owned a 10-2 record as Conant’s top doubles team. They will play Bishop Brady’s Madeline Moran and Shelby Herrington.
The No. 2 Conant doubles team of freshman Shannon Bennett and sophomore Ashley Rogers also got in. The first-year partners finished 7-2 on the year, winning their final seven matches, and will face the No. 4 team in Cassie Burbine and Amanda DePasquale of Londonderry.
Both tournaments will be held at the Derryfield School and Southern New Hampshire University.
