Hancock: A Hawkwatching Primer

Join Phil Brown and Henry Walters of NH Audubon’s Pack Monadnock Raptor Observatory for a presentation about fall hawkwatching, including raptor identification and natural history. Handouts will be provided, and raptor identification guides will be available for purchase, with proceeds supporting the Raptor Observatory at Pack Monadnock. 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Harris Center. Hancock: “Take A Hike” Lone Mountain Artists Opening

The “Take A Hike” exhibit, with a focus on the Harris Center Supersanctuary, reflects the artists’ love and respect for nature, and invites viewers to discover the beauty and fragility of our local environment. Meet the artists and enjoy light refreshments. Email for more information. Opening is 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Harris Center. The exhibit will be open at the Harris Center weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from September 13 through October 27.


South Ackworth: Hiking Gates Mountain

Russ Daigle and Denny Wheeler will lead a moderately strenuous, 3-mile hike up Gates Mountain, passing by the remains of the oldest standing house in Acworth. Diverse views from the summit include Mount Snow, Okemo, Killington, Ascutney, Monadnock, and the Lempster wind farm. Bring lunch and meet at 10 a.m. at the South Acworth Village Store on Route 123A.
