Peterborough man life-flighted, after ejection in Route 202 crash

JAFFREY — A Peterborough man was ejected from his vehicle during a morning crash on Route 202 near D.D. Bean & Sons today, Tuesday.

Police said Christopher Drayton, 21, of Peterborough was traveling north on Peterborough Street during the morning commute when his vehicle failed to follow the roadway as it curved, hitting the guardrail. Veering sharply back onto the roadway, Drayton crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic, striking a Ford F450 truck with a dump body — driven by Jeffrey Bennett, 51, of Winchendon, Mass., and owned by Royco Distributors Inc. of Gardner, Mass. Upon impact, Drayton was ejected from his vehicle. He sustained a major head injury, according to a press release issued by police Tuesday afternoon.

Drayton was transported by Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance to a helicopter, and LifeFlighted to UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, Mass. His current condition is unknown, police said.

Bennett told police at the scene he had no injuries, but he was transported by Peterborough Ambulance to Monadnock Community Hospital to be checked.

Traffic on Route 202 was diverted for more than an hour following the accident.
