Area police hosting  medication take-back

Four local towns will be holding a drug take back event to collect unused, unwanted and expired medications on Saturday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

The Dublin, Francestown, Peterborough and Mason Police Departments are among other towns in the area coordinating the event. Misuse of certain prescription and over-the-counter medications is rising, particularly among youth, according to police. They will accept any prescription or over-the-counter medication, both solid in liquid. Medications should be kept in their original containers.

Residents may use a black marker to eliminate patient-identifying information. Police request residents separate over-the-counter medications from prescription medications. Illicit substances, such as marijuana, and syringes will not be accepted.

For residents who are not able to drop off their excess medications at the event, visit for more information on properly disposing of medications. There is a medication disposal box available at all times at the Keene Police Department. Police advise not flushing medications down the toilet, as it introduces pharmaceuticals into the local water supply.
