Recycling fees increased
The Select Board on Tuesday unanimously approved a hike in some recycling fees, mostly for electronic items.
“Costs have risen significantly and the last time rates were raised was in 2001,” Public Works Director Rodney Bartlett told board members. “Our intent is to help us cover our costs.”
The fee to drop off a TV that’s less than 19 inches will go from $7 to $10. The cost for TVs 19 inches and over will rise from $13 to $20. The fee for console or projection TVs will go from $13 to $25.
Laptop computers will remain at $7, but several new fees have been instituted. Computer towers, microwaves, fire extinguishers and toilets will now have a $5 fee. Printers, fax machines and DVD, VCR or CD players will now carry a $3 fee.
Recycling Center Manager Scott Bradford said the new fee structure is still below the average charges for New Hampshire.
The increases will take effect immediately.
