Peterborough surgeon inducted into academy

Douglass R. Weiss, MD, FAAOS of Peterborough was inducted as a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons on March 22 during ceremonies at the Academy’s 2013 Annual Meeting in Chicago, Ill. Weiss was one of 585 new members inducted. The AAOS has more than 37,000 members worldwide.

In addition to serving as a team physician for USA Hockey and the U.S. Ski & Snowboarding Association, Weiss is a member of Monadnock Orthopaedic Associates, located in the Bond Wellness Center at Monadnock Community Hospital. As a surgeon, Weiss specializes in sports medicine as well as general orthopaedics. Weiss graduated from Dartmouth Medical School and then completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Massachusetts.

The academy is the largest association for musculoskeletal specialists. Its fellows have completed medical school, plus at least five years of specialty study in orthopaedics in an accredited residency program, passed comprehensive oral and written examinations and have been certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery.
