Special education support group starting up Thursday
Special Education services, “Individualized Education Program,” a “Free And Appropriate Public Education,” “goals, objectives, accommodations, modifications,” “Written Prior Notice,” “IEP Team.” These are just a few examples of the phrases that parents must learn when their child is identified as needing, or maybe needing, Special Education services.
The process can very confusing. A support group for parents in ConVal School District whose children receive Special Education services is forming.
The first meeting is Thursday at 7 p.m. at the Peterborough Unitarian Universalist Church, Carll House — the building behind the church — on the second floor.
This group seeks to support, inform, and/or assist parents to be effective team members in their child’s IEP meetings.
Linda Quintanilha and Lisa Beaudoin are organizing the group, each has completed the University of New Hampshire’s N.H. Leadership Series, a program of the Institute on Disability.
Beaudoin completes Parent Information Center’s Volunteer Advocacy training next week.
