Stone fills vacant School Board seat

At their Nov. 4 meeting, the Jaffrey-Rindge School Board swore in a former school principal to fill the vacant seat. The School Board unanimously voted in John J. Stone as a member last Monday evening. Stone, who represents Jaffrey, was the sole applicant for the seat.

Stone has been involved in student education for over 35 years, 16 of which were spent as principal for Rindge Memorial School. Stone retired from his principle position in 2012.

According to the meeting draft minutes, Stone is looking forward to returning to a position involved with local schools and “using his educational knowledge and other related experience for the good of the school district.”

Stone added that he and his wife understood the confidentiality requirements that come along with being a School Board member. The draft minutes quote Stone, saying that his wife “is very supportive and will continue to be supportive as he transitions to this new role.”

Stone replaced former member Thomas Connolly, who resigned Oct. 9. Connolly was later nominated and approved for the role of Conant High School Destination Imagination coach at the Oct. 21 School Board meeting.

Stone will serve a five-month term with the School Board, filling the vacant seat until the March 2014 elections.
