Jaffrey Police Log: April 25, 2013
Wednesday, April 17
Accident: At 5:21 p.m., police responded to a single-car crash on Hillcrest Road near the cemetery. Kenneth Dechaine, 55, of Jaffrey was driving a 2012 Chevrolet southbound when his car went over a curb and struck a stone wall, according to police. The car reportedly traveled along the stone wall for 50 to 70 feet before coming to rest. The car sustained moderate front-end damage and two flat tires. There were no reported injuries and the car was towed. Police said the cause of the crash was driver inattention.
Arrest: At 8:03 p.m., police responded to the United Church of Jaffrey on Main Street for a report of an intoxicated man. Police found Russell Holden, 44, of Jaffrey sitting on the ground near the church. He was taken into protective custody due to his intoxication and transported to the Cheshire County House of Corrections.
Accident: At 11:24 p.m., police responded to a single-car crash on Main Street. Geoffrey Phillips, 18, of Jaffrey told police he was driving a 2000 Honda Elantra on Main Street when three deer crossed the road in front of him. He said he was unable to avoid striking one of the deer, which had stopped in the road. The car sustained heavy front-end damage and was towed. Phillips was uninjured. The deer died.
Thursday, April 18
Accident: At 10:21 a.m., Joshua Mackey, 35, of Troy came to the Police Department to report that at around 10:30 p.m. the prior evening he had struck a bear on Route 124. He told police that the bear did not cause damage to his vehicle and appeared uninjured as it ran off.
Burglary: At 6:34 p.m., police received a report of a burglary on Stratton Road from a Jaffrey property owner, who said someone had gained entry to his building by smashing a window. An 8-foot kayak and five truck tires were reported stolen.
Friday, April 19
Accident: At 3:49 p.m., police responded to a two-car crash on Main Street near School Street. According to police, Michael Carney, 40, of Sullivan was driving a 2013 Honda Accord on Main Street when he stopped for a juvenile, who he thought was going to cross the street from the Jaffrey Public Library. Garry West, 65, of Rindge, who was driving a 1997 Mercury Villager behind Carney, failed to stop in time and rear-ended Carney’s vehicle. Both vehicles sustained minor damage and were driven away.
Arrest: At 8:30 p.m., a driver on Mountain Road reported that a car in front of her was swerving into the opposite lane of travel. Police responded and stopped the suspect vehicle. During the motor vehicle stop, police detected an odor from the vehicle that they believed to be marijuana. Following a consent search of the car, Joanne Pilley, 57, of Jaffrey was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled drug believed to be marijuana. She was released on $1,000 personal recognizance with a June 6 court date.
Sunday, April 21
Arrest: At 3:05 a.m., after observing a car being driven erratically on Peterborough Street, police arrested the driver, Meghan Stafford, 22, of Peterborough, and charged her with DWI. She was released on $1,000 personal recognizance with a May 2 court date.
Tuesday, April 23
Arrest: At 12:30 a.m., following a traffic stop on Turnpike Road, police arrested Cale Allen, 29, of Jaffrey and charged him with operating after suspension of his license. He was released on $1,000 personal recognizance with a June 6 court date.
