Safer roads, not footbridges

To the editor:

It would be in the better interest of the town that Selectmen should ask what terms to approve in the sale of the GAR Hall.

Are we in the business of paving parking lots and building footbridges now? Access to Depot Square by walking is two buildings down the street on Derby Way, already an expensively brick-paved walkway with a lovely seating area. Also, why not preserve the history of that building and leave the statue, cannon and cannon balls in place? Whatever is to be put there, is there harm to the buyers this way?

Seems a bit outrageous set of terms, and the face of Peterborough will change badly for a meager $172,000 sale? Saving a bit of history seems a better choice for our future when being such a “pretty little town” may not mean as much.

Let us put our money into safer winter roads and better plowing rather than giving it all to a local business partnership.
