Supper grateful  for all the help

To the editor:

We would like to express our heartfelt thanks to the community members and to the Gilbert Verney Foundation who, through their generous contributions, have helped to sustain the Peterborough Community Suppers.

For 10 years, the Community Supper at the Peterborough UU Church has provided a free weekly spaghetti supper to a community that has come to depend on it. In April 2012, the Church was cited in violation of several state building codes. The church’s operating budget could not accommodate the costs to address needed changes (including a fire suppression system and second form of egress from the dining room), and the suppers faced closure.

A fundraising group initially appealed to its members and friends and then broadened its appeal to the community, the combination of which ultimately resulted in the funding needed to make the repairs and continue the suppers. Recently the supper also received a generous grant from the Gilbert Verney Foundation to help cover the operating costs of the supper for the coming year.

Thank you to the Gilbert Verney Foundation and our community supporters for sustaining this event that serves many needs throughout the Monadnock region. We welcome everyone to come enjoy a great meal and warm community any Wednesday night from 5:30 to 6:30 at the Unitarian Universalist Church on Main Street in Peterborough.
