Main paces Vikings, Bernier PRs shotput
The Mascenic indoor track team finished up its season in fine fashion at the DIII meet at the University of Southern Maine Saturday. Leading Mascenic was Jackson Whitehouse, who placed 5th in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:09.9. He also finished the 1,500 meter race in 11th, running 4:55.5. Jimmy Thompson also ran the 1,500, finishing 16th in 5:02.9, lopping seven seconds off his previous best. Sam Main had an excellent day, setting three personal recorrds: 42.7 seconds in the 300 meters (11th), 15’8.5” in long jump (17th) and (18th) in shotput (27’2”).
Briana Boulerice competed in the 100 meters (10th, 4:25.7) and the shot put (15th, 20’2.5”), capping off a solid season of improvement.
“The athletes made steady progress throughout the short season which will prepare them well for the upcoming outdoor season, which can’t come soon enough,” said coach Mike Smith. Mascenic travels to UNH on Sunday for a meet.
Last Sunday, the ConVal indoor track team participated in their first standards meet this season at UNH. Fifteen schools from all three divisions were represented.
This type of track meet is primarily for athletes who are on the verge of qualifying for the state championships. Athletes that have already qualified do not necessarily need to participate. For this reason, only two ConVal athletes participated Sunday. Tim Bernier placed 6th in the boys shotput with a new personal record of 38’11”. Jesse Edwards set his own new personal record in the boys 1,000-meter run at 3:04.10, a nine-second improvement from his previous best.
ConVal travels to UNH for another standards meet Saturday, at which most of their athletes should be competing.
