Orioles earn 1-0 win at Mascenic
Boutwell’s goal gives Conant its 1st win
The Conant field hockey team defeated Mascenic 1-0 Saturday to capture its first win of the season.
Both the Vikings and the Orioles came into the game winless and looking to turn their season around.
The Vikings recorded eight shots and earned seven offensive corners but were still unable to put one past Conant goalie Sarah Gonsalves. Mascenic came out strong recording more than half its shots in the first half.
The Orioles stuck with the Vikings and took over the game in the second half with a goal from Becca Boutwell, assisted by Heather Bilodeau. Boutwell took advantage of a defensive corner breakdown to put the ball past Mascenic goalie Gianna Cialdea for the game’s only goal. Cialdea made five saves and Gonsalves finished with eight.
“It was great to get the win today,” said Conant coach Leigh Webb. “Losing is never fun but working hard together is fun and eventually it will pay off.”
Mascenic, meanwhile, still has time to capture its first win of the season.
“We need to focus on improving our execution inside our offensive and defensive 25s,” said Mascenic coach Selena Shaw. “That in turn will also help us capitalize on our scoring opportunities.”
The two teams will have another shot at each other when they square off on Saturday.
