Peterborough Recreation Department director Jeff King remains on paid leave, according to Town Administrator Rodney Bartlett Wednesday.

Bartlett confirmed more than two weeks ago that King had been placed on paid leave while “concerns” raised about him were being investigated.

Though the town has declined to say when the paid leave began, Bartlett confirmed this week that the town policy that investigations into grievances must be concluded within 10 days was extended so that the memorandum of understanding between the Select Board and the Recreation Committee could be honored. The memorandum of understanding says the committee is to provide guidance or input “relative to dismissals,” Bartlett said.

Recreation Committee member Kate Coon said Tuesday that the committee held nonpublic meetings Wednesday of last week and then on Saturday in which they reviewed materials, provided by the Select Board, regarding the issue. As a result, the committee is drafting a letter that will be sent to the Select Board, she said.

“There is a memorandum of understanding between the Select Board and the PRC which we’re responding to, we did vote to write them a letter,” Coon said.

Coon said she couldn’t comment on the issue at hand.

“It’s absolutely a confidential letter,” Coon said. “We are bound to not say anything. It’s a confidential personnel matter. We are not supposed to say anything. We are not to violate the confidentiality at all.”
