Sharon’s tax rate is up by 17 cents this year, attributed mostly to increases in the local school tax, which was offset by decreases in other portions of the tax rate.

The total tax rate this year comes in at $20.92 per $1,000 of assessed value, compared to last year’s rate of $20.75.

The municipal portion of the tax rate saw the biggest decrease from last year, dropping to $5.51 from $5.88, a decrease of 6.2 percent. The Select Board voted to use $20,000 of the unexpended fund balance to offset this year’s rate.

The county rate also dropped, decreasing 9 cents to come in at $1.21 this year. The state education rate stayed about the same, only going up by a cent from $2.39 to $2.40.

Local education was the biggest shift this year, jumping up by 62 cents from $11.18 to $11.80, a 5.5 percent increase.

A person owning a home valued at $200,000 can expect to pay taxes in the amount of $4,184, about $34 more than they would have paid for a house of the same value last year.
