Young singers wanted for Grand Monadnock Youth Choirs

Thursday, September 07, 2017

Grand Monadnock Youth Choirs, a performance-based choral music education program for young singers, will hold auditions for singers in grades 2 through 12 to join one of its five youth choirs in Peterborough and Keene.

Auditions will be held throughout the month of September in Keene and Peterborough. This year new singers are invited to audition with a friend at a “buddy audition.” For information or to arrange an audition, contact GMYC Artistic Director Esther Rhoades at 499-3505 or by email at grandmonadnockyouthchoirs@gmail.com.

The five choirs of Grand Monadnock Youth Choirs rehearse and perform both individually and together as a choir of 100 voices. The Keene area choirs are the Keene Youth Chorus (grades 2-4) and the Elm City Singers (grades 5-8). Peterborough hosts three choirs, the Trebles (grades 2-4) and the Choristers (grades 5-8). The Cecelia Ensemble is a highly skilled all-treble chorus of singers in high school that tours internationally. They will be performing in the Czech Republic in April 2018.

All choirs are auditioning new singers for the coming year. GMYC choirs will have several opportunities to perform in the coming season. All choirs will perform concerts in Peterborough and Keene the first week of December and the first week of May. Singers will also participate in collaborations with other organizations, and will participate in the holiday tree lighting ceremony in Keene, and caroling in Depot Square in Peterborough.

GMYC begins its 21st season this fall under the leadership of its new artistic director, Esther Rhoades.

A singer since her own childhood, Esther earned a degree in music from University of Delaware, trained at Westminster Choir College, and is an experienced conductor of choirs of all ages and abilities.
