Arts tour presentation at Cheshire historical society
On March 12, at 7 p.m., Banner Tours and Travel will give a presentation at the Historical Society of Cheshire County about a two-day trip to New York in August.
The tour will visit the Glimmerglass Opera House in Cooperstown to see a performance of Rogers and Hammerstein’s “Carousel,” the Fenimore Art Museum, as well as a special exhibit by the New York Historical Society.
The presentation on March 12 will give people an opportunity to ask questions, sign up, and pick up information on other historical tours.
“Carousel” tells the story of a carousel barker’s struggles to rise above challenging circumstances. The Glimmerglass Festival company operates out of the Alice Busch Opera Theater located on the shores of Otsego Lake, the ‘Glimmerglass’ of James Fenimore Cooper’s Leatherstocking Tales. The Fenimore Art Museum is the showcase of the New York Historical Society and features one of the nation’s premier collections of American Indian Art.
The American Theater, Art, and History Getaway, scheduled for Aug. 12 and 13, is part of a series of tours that Banner Tours and Travel is putting on with its partners the Historical Society and the Monadnock Center for History and Culture.
One-day trips will include a tour of Edith Wharton’s home, the Mount, in Lenox, Mass., a tour of the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, and a tour of the Joshua L. Chamberlain Museum and other attractions in Brunswick, Maine.
A multi-day tour is scheduled for August 15-23, and it will visit four historic railways in Colorado: the Georgetown Loop Railroad, the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad, Cañon City’s Royal Gorge Railroad, and the Pike’s Peak Cog Railway. Another multi-day tour will take a river cruise from Paris, France to the landing beaches of Normandy.
