Remembering Mac

My intro to contra dancing

I moved from Wyoming to New Hampshire to attend Keene State, and while I was there, I heard about this very New England thing called contra dance. And I heard that on any Monday night, if I wanted to check it out, I should get on up to Nelson.

I did, and was hooked, and am still seeking out dances of all kinds all over and around the world. In my memory, it is a hot summer night, sticky in NH, compared to Wyoming, but light and music from the town hall spill outside into the dusk. It was on that crooked floor I first waltzed to Bob’s songs, learned to dance, and now that experience influences me still, as a professional musician, touring the world over, sharing music with others.

Bob’s hands may not play more notes on that old piano, but the hands of so many others whom he touched will carry on the music, and share the love, in ways that go beyond words.
