ConVal takes highest finish in program history

Cougars’ third-place Division II spot shatters their previous best of eighth place; new coach and strong seniors get the credit

The ConVal spirit team captured their highest finish in program history at this years division II championships held at Pinkerton Academy on March 9.

The Cougars finished fourth overall with a final score of 81, just 8 points behind third place Windham. According to head coach Cody Flynn, the Cougars had never scored higher than 75 points or placed higher than eighth overall in division II before this season.

“The girls did awesome this season because they were more of a family than a team. They really came together as a team without any drama,” said Flynn in a recent interview.

Senior co-captain Jocelyn Doyle felt that the teams success had a lot to do with coach Flynn’s passion for the sport. “Cody was new last year, but this year we built off of last year and everyone was more into it,” she said.

Like Flynn, Doyle acknowledged that the team was closer knit than in years past. “We had more team bonding than in years past which helped us improve from the fall to winter.”

Fellow senior co-captain Hannah Anderson credits coach Flynn with teaching the girls to work together, “I didn’t think we would be able to do it,” she said. “I’m going to miss competing in front of people with the team.”

Senior Rowan Coltey-Reeves was equally pleased with the teams season saying, “Everyone put in so much hard work in this season, practicing 110% everyday. It felt fulfilling. I’m going to miss the way this team worked together and the support of the other girls on the team.”
