A Wild, Historical Tea Party

Hancock, Friday

Andrea Marshall, professional wild foraging instructor, will teach children and families basic concepts of sustainable and ethical wild foraging. We’ll learn to identify safe and nutritious plants that have been historically enjoyed by humans in tea, root beer, salad, soup, and more. We’ll return to the Harris Center kitchen to prepare and sample wild tea made from plants sustainably harvested from our conserved land. This hands-on class will introduce students to the science of ethnobotany through the teaching of fun historical facts about human food and foraging patterns, intermixed with basic modern botany. Sustainable Wild Medicine Foraging Intensive

Hancock, Saturday

This in-depth, one-afternoon class is designed for adult learners interested in both science and “folk herbalism” (also known as ethnomedicine). It’ll be hands-on and interactive, giving dual focus to the study of historical uses of wild medicinal plants and fungi, and to the modern science of botanical medicine. 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the Harris Center. $45/members, $65/nonmembers.
