Mascenic girls basketball drops opener

The Mascenic girls basketball team drew the unfortunate task of playing powerhouse Campbell in the 2012-13 season opener.

And it didn’t turn out too well for the Vikings, as they lost 75-30 on Friday night.

Campbell won the Division III title in 2010-11 and made it to the championship game the year before that and last season.

Mascenic, on the other hand, is playing under its sixth coach in the last seven years and has not won a single game since the 2006-07 season.

The Vikings fell behind 23-7 after the first and 41-9 at the half. They scored more in the third quarter, 10, than in the entire first half.

Senior Erin Scollons picked up right where she left off last year, posting her first of what should be many double-doubles on the season with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

Junior Cheyanne Sauvola finished with eight points, senior Jocelyn Ojala had seven and junior Elizabeth Martel scored four.

Campbell had four players finish with double figures.

Mascenic will open its home schedule tonight when it plays host to Monadnock at 7 p.m.
