FPU skateboarder still in critical condition

A Franklin Pierce University student, who sustained a serious head injury in a skateboarding accident on Feb. 8, remained in critical condition at UMass Medical Center on Monday.

The 18-year-old — whose identity is being withheld by university and Rindge town officials — has been a patient at UMass Medical Center’s intensive care unit for the past week, according to hospital records.

The 18-year-old and another university student were skateboarding at the intersection of University Drive and Ingalls Road on Feb. 8, when they allegedly collided with each other at a high-rate of speed, according to Fire Chief Rick Donovan.

First responders found the 18-year-old lying on the ground unconscious when they arrived at the accident scene.

The 18-year-old was airlifted from Cathedral of the Pines in Rindge to UMass Medical Center in Worcester, Mass., that evening.

The second student involved in the incident sustained road rash, but is OK, according to Donovan.
