Letter: Thatcher among the great leaders

To the editor:

When I learned that former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Margaret Thatcher had died, that made me pause and think of her and her country.

In my book, when we want to recognize great statesman, effective politicians, great leaders and movers and shakers, she must be on that list.

At the height of her reign, England really needed someone with all of her talents, visions and economic savvy. Winston Churchill — with all his brusqueness, his acceptance of the call to duty and his ability to deal with Franklin Roosevelt and Stalin — was a genius. But Thatcher was more than a match.

She was more than just a politician. She was a visionary guided by a firm set of economic principles that served her country in a critical time in its history.

When I think of leaders on the world stage of society who provide example and inspiration, as Margaret Thatcher has done, I think of Ronald Reagan, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, Helen Keller and Lech Walesa.

In our world today, we too need such a leader.

Regrettably such a person does not lead our country today. Thatcher took criticism and abuse in stride as part of the job.

We need more Margaret Thatchers.
