Remembering  the elderly

To the editor:

Not even Charles Dickens, who wrote “Oliver Twist,” could have envisioned Maine Sen. Susan Collins’s unfortunate voice gleefully declaring that Congress could do things. We voted to restore money to air travel.

I am all for safe air travel, but – wow – thousands of elderly, sick, and infirm sit in despair as they wonder if Meals on Wheels will ever be restored. What do they do? Neighborhood grocery stores are becoming rare, almost nonexistent in cities. Big box stores are miles away. They don’t drive and, in cities, many never owned a car. They get from bed to chair and depend on Meals on Wheels for survival.

Yes, money is important – so are priorities! Do unto others as the Republican Congress does? I’d cut their pay to start.

Charles Dickens would have turned down the plot as too unbelievable.
