‘Last’ film screening tonight at library
The Peterborough Town Library will host a free showing of “The Last Picture Show,” a 1971, PG-rated film, tonight at 7:30 p.m.
The film stars Timothy Bottoms, Ellen Burstyn, Cloris Leachman, Cybill Shepherd and Jeff Bridges. Nominated for two Oscars, the film was Peter Bogdanovich’s first directorial success. It was also then-model Cybill Shepherd’s cinema debut.
The film, based on Larry McMurtry’s semi-autobiographical novel of the same name, is a frank, bittersweet drama of social and sexual mores in small-town Texas during the 1950s.
The library’s “Four Last Films” series features a strong lineup of directors, writers and actors in these films from the 1970s, each of which has “Last” in its title.
The series continues on May 23 with the comedy-mystery “The Last of Sheila,” a PG-rated film from 1971, and on May 28 “The Last Wave,” not rated from 1977.
The screenings are free and open to the public and start at 7:30 p.m. in the library’s downstairs meeting room.
