Hancock: First Session of Small Wonders Club for at the Harris Center
Search for signs of fall and the arrival of winter. Learn how insects, birds, mammals, and pond creatures prepare for the coming of the cold. Live like a chipmunk, eat like a bear, and change from caterpillar to butterfly. Migrate to the Harris Center for an autumn adventure from 1-3 p.m. Additional sessions on Oct. 4, 11, and 18. Hancock: First Session of “My Side of the Mountain” Adventure for Homeschoolers
Live like Sam Gribley for four mornings this fall. Read and live the classic story by Jean Craighead George: keep a journal, meet The Baron, and soar with Frightful. Learn how to find your way in the woods, build a fire, construct a shelter, collect and eat wild edibles, invent a tool, and tie a knot. From 10 a.m. to noon. Additional sessions are Oct. 4, 11 and 18. Cost is $48 for Harris Center members and $60 for nonmembers. Space is limited. Marlow: Hiking Bald Mountain Preserve on the Marlow Profile
Join Russ Daigle and Brian Bishoff for a moderately strenuous, 2.5-mile hike to Marlow Profile, with views to the peaks of Mount Monadnock, Mount Snow, and Stratton Mountain. Bring a picnic lunch, and meet at 10 a.m. at the parking area on Route 123 in Marlow, 1 mile from Route 10.
