A word of caution

As the school year winds down, students may be feeling antsy to be outside more and among their peers, while at the same time parents may be feeling it’s OK to loosen the reins a bit as summer approaches. And it’s important for kids to have the chance to make some decisions, especially as they prepare to move up a grade or even graduate, but the need for parameters and structure don’t end when school lets out.

A handful of youths were at the Rindge Memorial School parking lot on a recent Friday night. At about 11 p.m., there was a 911 call reporting two fell off the roof of a moving vehicle going at a slow rate of speed. One was critically injured. The incident raises a lot of questions, especially about supervision and curfew.

Summer is a time for kids to have fun and get a break from school. We hope it will be a safe season for all of them.
