ConVal School District to hold canned food drive competition
A districtwide canned food drive, sponsored by the National Honor Society of the ConVal School District and in support of Hunger Action Month this September, will be held Sept. 23 to 27.
The event will take place at all eleven schools in the district — the elementary schools, the middle schools, the high school and the SAU office.
The event will inspire friendly competition between the schools, the SAU Office and the School Board as they vie for a prize presented by Supt. Brendan Minnihan.
The number of cans each school brings in will be counted as a percentage of the school’s population, so every school has a chance to win.
Elementary school students will receive a flyer to take home detailing acceptable, non-perishable food items.
These include canned foods of all kind, rice, pasta, cereal, peanut butter, jelly, hamburger and tuna helper, and non-food items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, boxes of tissues, and packaged rolls of toilet paper.
Contributors are asked to please not bring in anything past its expiration date, dented, or previously opened.
Donation boxes will be located in each school’s main office and the final tally of cans will be on Sept. 27.
All items collected will be donated to each school’s area food bank to help those in need. For more information, contact Nancy Gagnon of ConVal High School at 924-3869.
